Jean Row - 2008 Award Winner

Annual Community Commitment Award

This award goes to a person or group who gives selflessly of their time and talents for the betterment of our community.

Jean Row, volunteer manager of the Clothing Bank – was our 2008 recipient.

Huron County Interagency Council

Since the early 90's we have sponsored this gathering of community organizations. Our mission is to work together and help each other as we address local issues, eliminate duplication of services, and assure our local donations are put to best use.

Tool Time

Each late March or early April we hold an event with Big Time Tools, Raffles, Auctions, Food and Fun. This fundraiser also serves to help folks understand our role when it comes to funding essential community services.

Formal Dress Project

Since 2002 we have been distributing donated formals (new & gently used) to students in Huron County and surrounding area High Schools - students who would otherwise not be able to attend their formal dance for the lack of a dress. Let's Dance!

Professional Clothing
Resource Room

The Chamber & United Fund have joined forces to establish a professional clothing resource for those getting into, or back into the workforce. Local schools and colleges send their students our way for this referral only program.

Sweater Drive

Started in 1997 as a celebration of 25 years of "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood," a sweater drive was conducted throughout northeast Ohio. Since then, our United Fund has partnered with our local KeyBank to collect over 8,000 gently used sweaters for area nursing homes, kids & senior agencies and the Clothing Bank.

Days of Caring

In Spring, Summer or Fall as needed, our volunteers and board members help in our community with clean-up, paint, building projects for local agencies and residents - it's all a matter of getting folks with the right skills together to help - and of course, lunch never hurt either.

Back to Basics Project

Since 2001 we have been giving bags of personal and household items (on a referral only basis) to citizens in our area. Collection of items take place in local businesses and agencies, and with our volunteers. If your business or organization would like to help, give us a call.

North Coast
Concert Band

The United Fund has been sponsoring this concert the first Sunday in May for several years. Join us for this free concert at the Ernsthausen Performing Arts Center in Norwalk.

Chamber Home & Business Show

Join us for lunch when you visit this well-attended business show. This annual event is the last Saturday in February. All lunch proceeds benefit the United Fund.

Emergency Food & Shelter Grant

We have a seat as secretary on this local board. We work closely with the other board members to distribute this federal grant to agencies who help our residents in Huron County with emergency food and shelter needs.

Health and Needs Assessments

Not only are community health and needs assessments conducted regularly to understand what programs should be developed or changed, but they are critical to grant writing so we can fund pressing issues and plan for our future.
